Skala Resort
Skala is a region in the South-Eastern edge of kefalonia and is the
island's best kept secret with its mountainous backdrop and
breathtaking scenery.
The long stretch of sand and shingle beach is lapped by clear
turquoise water and is popular for water sports enthusiasts. There
is a good selection of bars, tavernas and restaurants. Skala is
about 37 km away from the island's capital, Argostoli and 12km from
the Port of Poros.
Journey through history
The area's archaeological site is rich in very important Roman floor
mosaics dating back to the 3rd century BC. You can see these in the
small museum on the edge of the village.
For those of a more energetic nature you can walk up to the old
village of Skala in the mountains behind the current resort. It was
destroyed in the earthquake of 1953 which devastated the whole
island. some building still remain and make an interesting
adventure.
